All year round awnings

Many of the awnings and umbrellas installed by Samson awnings are quite able to be left extended in light rainfall as long as the awning has enough pitch to let the rainwater run away and not 'pool' in the material. The material should however be left to dry after the rain has stopped and not immediately retracted and left wet inside the cassette housing.
There are now products that are designed specifically for use in the rain. These include the superb Patiola fixed track system and the Markilux 1600 Skylife2.
Markilux 1600 skylife 2The moving arm part of the Markilux 1600 skylife 2 is equipped with a clever joint mechanism that allows the awning to be transformed into a gable by using simple grip handles. It is an ideal solution for adjustable sun protection – and perfect for rain drainage, even with a 0% awning pitch. With the skylife 2 providing greater headroom at its central point, it is a practical alternative for those sites with lower mounting points or larger projections.

Once you begin to retract the extended awning the gable feature will automatically return to a normal straight profile.

Rainwater will disperse quickly from the Skylife awning when the gable feature is engaged. Once the rain has passed the material still needs to dry out before retracting to prevent mould developing.

The markilux 1600 skylife 2 is available in widths of up to 6.6 m or with a maximum drop of 3.5 m. Exceptionally wide systems are fitted with a rolltex bearing to prevent the cover from drooping.

Manual drive is supplied with a stainless steel winding handle and electric motor and radio-controls are available as optional extras.

The full range of Markilux materials are able to be used with the Skylife.

Other awning systems that can be used in greater wind speeds and heavier rainfalls generally involve fixed side tracks to help support the material as well as hold it taut.
The Markilux RS8000 system is a good example of this method and can cover enormous areas when required.

8000 frame system
The Markilux 8000 awning system can be coupled together to give cover over very large areas.

The Patiola system is designed completely for all year round use and offers rain guttering options. The unique tension cord system holds the material cover very tight, enabling use in higher winds and heavier rainfall than unsupported awnings.

Whatever your requirement may be Samson will offer good advice and make sure you do not buy a product that may not be 100% suitable for your intended use. Although these products are designed for use in rain, sudden, very heavy rain or snow as well as the more common strong gusts of wind will obviously place huge strain on the arms and the fixing points and therefore common sense is always required in day to day use especially as our UK weather has become so much more unpredictable.
All of the products have been tested and some even have a wind rating but this is always done in a controlled environment and in the real outside world you cannot measure the weather by exact scales very easily.
