No matter the size, there is a solution for every space
In the world of home improvement and outdoor living, one thing is clear: size does not matter when it comes to creating comfortable and inviting outdoor spaces.
While large patios and extending gardens have long been the focus of outdoor design, small outdoor areas, such as balconies and roof terraces, are gaining popularity. These petite spaces can be transformed into cosy retreats with the right design elements, and having an awning could be a remarkable addition in this transformation. In this article, Samson Outdoor Living experts will help you to choose the best solution for any garden space.
1. Small balconies and roof terraces
It is not just large patios that need good protection from the sun, but small outdoor spaces too. Outdoor living is an ongoing trend, which is why awnings that protect such spaces from the sun and wind are very much in demand. That’s also true of small balconies and roof terraces. With all this in mind, Markilux offers a selection of products which fulfil those criteria, while at the same time providing protection against prying eyes.
For example, you could choose practical solutions including vertical external roller blinds models like the 620 and 625 fitted with the Tracfix system, which keeps the cover perfectly taut, or the Marquisolette model 740. These can all be easily attached to a wall or under a balcony as sun protection and privacy screens.
External vertical blinds are one of the fastest growing products for controlling solar heat gain through glass or open areas and reducing costs in air conditioning.
Markilux 790 side awning is also suitable for this purpose, additionally providing protection against low sun. Attached to a wall, it can be quickly extended by means of an integrated handle. It is also available with an angled top edge for balconies with a sloping roof overhang. In this configuration, it can be combined with a compact pergola awning or a folding arm awning.
Slimline cover cassette products are suitable for shielding tiny outdoor dining spaces from the sun and heat. This helps them blend in with the building feature to which they have been attached. Below are our Markilux 990 awnings which were fitted for a small area.
If you fancy free standing systems, Syncra, meanwhile, are well suited for small outside areas as they combine the advantages of an awning with the flexibility of a parasol. This system hangs on a crossbeam supported by two lateral posts, giving the users plenty of space under the solar protection system. It can either be fixed permanently to the ground or held in place by ballast boxes that can double up as plant beds or seat.
2. Large patios or gardens
When you require an awning in an extra large size (in particular over about 6 metres wide) then the options can be greatly reduced. However, there are several types that can reach widths of up to 14 metres!
For an area up to 6.5m wide and up to 4m in projection, the Weinor Opal awning or Weinor Semina Life awning will be ideal. The full cassette keeps the awning protected when it is not in use and the optional drop down valance provides extra shade and privacy.
For some gardens requiring the larger awning, our Weinor I/K/N 2000 awning or Markilux 1600 can offer up to 7 metres in width and 4 metres in projection. These awnings are not only stylish but they also withstand winds up to Force 5 on the Beaufort scale.
